The governments of Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and
Denmark have along with the UN Foundation pledged support to the
Network totaling approximately US$ 2,000,000. Original donations
covered the operation of the Network for the period from its launch at
the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in September 2002
to mid 2005.
The largest donations for GNESD have
come from the German Government and the Danish Governments which has
supported the Network to the present.
UNDP has in addition supported the Energy Access theme activities and
has supported outreach activites the the RETs theme.
Finances for operation until at least the end of 2009 has been
secured. Approximately sixty percent of project expenditures directly
support activities of the developing country Centres in the Network.
