One of the main objectives of the Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs)
theme is to identify the contribution of RETs to poverty alleviation
and the provision of concrete policy guidance and to identify and
overcome previously identified barriers to RETs. Furthermore, it will
provide a guide as to where and how to engage in the policy dialogue
process. These outputs will be aimed at policy makers, decision
makers, energy policy analysts, NGOs and researchers.
The theme focus will include the full potential of renewable sources
considering all objectives of energy policy and in all the sectors of
energy consumption. As a first phase and in connection with the Access
theme, focus will be put on poverty alleviation and will focus on both
final and intermediate use of energy in the residential sector. It is
expected that a second phase will address other productive uses of
renewables and in a broader scope.
Each of the 9 developing country Centres are currently finalizing
their Initial Assessment Reports and final outcomes will be made
available on this site as soon as they are available. Draft reports
are currently uploaded to the Partners area of the GNESD Intranet for
comments. The Theme coordinator is Gustavo Nadal of the Bariloche
Foundation, Argentina. <gnadal@bariloche.com.ar>
Initial
findings from the RETs Working Group are contained in the
RETs Flyer and Technical
Reports now available from the Publications
section.
